A group of Polish stakeholders has met for the second time to agree on the working methods of an expert group composed of different interests. The aim of the project is to improve dialogue but also to come up with joint, workable solutions for the future Polish fisheries policy.
On 6 May, a meeting was held in Gdyniawith Polish stakeholders representing the fishing sector, environmental NGOs, scientists and civil servants. The group met to agree on the terms of long-term cooperation to find new solutions to fisheries policy issues. It was the second step of a process that began in February this year and has been supported by Ilan Chabay and his research team at Chalmers University in Gothenburg, as well as Peter Adler from the Keystone Center, USA.
Participants at the meeting were very happy with the progress made so far and felt its formation is an important step towards a more open and creative debate about how to solve problems ailing the fisheries sector and the marine environment in Poland. A core group consisting of Ryszard Malik, Polish Sea Fishermen’s Association, Ewa Milewska, WWF Poland, and Dr Zbigniew Karnicki from the Polish Sea Fisheries Institute has been formed to take the work of the larger group forward.
