The Natura 2000 project, the upcoming EU control regulation, and the futures of the Baltic salmon and the Common Fisheries Policy, respectively, were the issues handled at an intensive two-day NGO “strategic workshop” in Stockholm in early June.
The workshop, a part of the joint Eko-Unia/Our Earth Foundation/FISH project “The Baltic is in Poland; The Baltic is in Europe”, had a threefold purpose:
- To provide information about and good examples of marine Natura 2000 sites
- To formulate a strategy for the rest of the year in relation to the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy, the proposal for a new Control Regulation and the new long-term management plan for Baltic salmon
- To contribute to greater cooperation between different NGOs in the Baltic region, as well as facilitate a sharing of ideas.
More than 20 representatives from Poland, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Denmark and Great Britain took part; presentations made may be studied via links below.
