British women in fisheries management can now benefit from a €500-plus training program aimed at supporting women in male-dominated industries.
The training grant is available through Lantra’s Women and Work programme, Lantra being the Sector Skills Council for environmental and land-based industries, working with 17 industries across the whole of the United Kingdom.
The £450 (€510) grant will enable women working in the industry to develop their skills, careers and businesses and is on offer until February 2011.
Since the Women and Work programme started in March 2007, Lantra has helped 2,400 women working in male dominated environmental and land-based industries to progress.
“The programme has been a huge success over the last 3 years and we have seen some wonderful examples of women using the programme to achieve more”, said programme manager Lyndsay Bird.
“The grants can be used to fund a range of training activities to develop technical, leadership, management and supervisory skills. This year, we are now able to offer this opportunity to women in fisheries management and look forward to seeing how it benefits the industry.”
