French appreciation for Swedish Fish & Food

Published on March 23, 2011

Swedish fish exports increased by 24 percent in 2010, making up one third of all Swedish export incomes from food and agriculture products, the government announced.

According to statistics from the Board of Agriculture, all Swedish exports of food and agriculture products amounted to €6 billion in 2010, a 9 percent increase from 2009, a year hard hit by the global financial crisis.

Exports of fish netted €2.1 billion, as compared to €1.6 billion in 2009.

Sweden’s Nordic neighbours – and France, were the most important markets for its food and agriculture exports.

The country however imported much more than it sold for: Swedish imports of food and agriculture products amounted to €10.6 billion last year. Some 60 percent came from Norway, Denmark, Holland and Germany.
