Towards coherent policies and governance of the Baltic Sea Ecosystems

Published on May 18, 2015

A new research project called Go4Baltic was launched early April this year with the aim to “provide advice for optimal choices of aquatic, agricultural and climate policy mixes, policy designs and implementation”.

The project is part of the 2015 BONUS projects and is finalised through EU funds. The Go4Baltic is set up to addresses both existing and future agricultural, aquatic and climate policies with the ultimate goal to safeguard the Baltic Sea environment. Focus will be on analysis and modelling of environmental and agricultural policy instrument choices as well as analysing coherence, performance and conflicts between policies across different scales.

The results of the project will support the implementation of the Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP), Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). A findings from the project will be summarised in a “Socioeconomic Baltic sea Action plan”, which is to take into account cost-effective solutions to reduce eutrophication, which still is one of the major environmental challenges in the Baltic Sea. Go4Life will run over three years.
