The Commission have published an amendment to the delegated act on the Advisory Councils.
The amendment clarifies that when the General Assembly elects an Executive Committee, it is the Other Interest Groups in that Advisory Council who decide if a member shall be designated as an ”other interest group” or not. While it is the industry members who determine if a members shall be designated as a ”sector organisation” or not.
Member States will continue to be responsible for evaluating potential member organisations and deciding whether they are relevant to be a member of an Advisory Council and provide the European institutions with advice and recommendations regarding fisheries management.
The background to the change is that there has been dispute about whether a particular group should be designated as an “other interest group” or is in fact more a representative of industry interests.
