The Danish Fishermen Producer Organisation (DFPO) has “strengthened its presence on the international scene and runs now an office in the heart of Brussels”.
The DFPO also fund or are members of a range of lobby associations, such as the The European Association of Fish Producers Organizations (EAPO), the International Coalition of Fisheries Associations (ICFA), the Baltic Fishermen’s Association and the European Fisheries Alliance, who campaign on Brexit fisheries issues to ensure continued access to the British exclusive economic zone. DFPO is also members of North Sea and Baltic Advisory Councils, with whom they share an office with the latter in Copenhagen.
Within the Baltic Sea Advisory Council the DFPO have voted against small-scale fishermen who in line with the Common Fisheries Policy, Article 17, have “fishing vessels deploying selective fishing gear or using fishing techniques with reduced environmental impact” from having greater access to quota.
DFPO, who have held the BSAC Demersal Working Group Chair position from 2006 onwards, have also voted against following the scientific recommendations for the now collapsed eastern Baltic cod stock for the past 7 consecutive years. The Advisory Council recommendations for 2017, 2018 and 2019 are linked.
