STECF: Scoping meeting for Impact Assessments for Baltic Multi-species plan and cod plans

A meeting organized by the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee (STECF) Expert Working Groups (EWG) 15-11. The focus will be on impact assessments for Baltic Multi-species plan and cod plans in the Kattegat, North Sea, West of Scotland and Irish Sea. Reform of the CFP at KSLA

Location: Stockholm, Sweden

Dates: 23 November 2011

The Royal Academy for Forestry and Agriculture in Sweden will host an event discussing the CFP reform, with a particular focus on minimising bycatch and the Commission proposals for a discard ban. Speakers include Commissioner Damanaki, the Swedish agriculture Minister Eskil Erlandsson, and the chairs of the BS RAC and the NS RAC. The meeting will take place from 1230-1715 and will be conducted in Swedish, Norwegian and English, with no translation.

GAP Herring Case Study meeting

The GAP (Conecting Science, Society and Policy) 'Kick off' meeting for the Herring Case Study will present a series of sessions and discussions with focus on Western Baltic herring. There will also be group discussion which will  take up two selected topics, namely, MSY as a concept and Management objectives for particular herring stocks. The aims of the meeting are to produce a set of Minutes and an outline for the continued work within the Case Study, including tentative plans for an upcoming Seminar in 2012. Ending Discards: What Strategy for the Common Fisheries Policy Reform

On Wednesday 9th November, a discussion workshop will be held (hosted by Chris Davies) on behalf of the Fish for the Future group, with contributions from Norwegian fisheries experts to explain the Norwegian experience of policies intended to ban discarding, highlighting the strengths and weakness of such polices and opening up the discussion as to how such experience could help to shape the proposals set forth by the Commission.
