Dates: 08 April - 06 May 2021

Under the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive, the Member States are required to develop strategies for achieving "good environmental status" (GES) and have clean, healthy and productive seas by 2020. A report on the first implementation cycle of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive published in June 2020 showed that while the EU’s framework for marine environmental protection is one of the most comprehensive and ambitious worldwide, it needs to be beefed up to be able to tackle predominant pressures such as overfishing and unsustainable fishing practices, plastic litter, excess nutrients, underwater noise and others types of pollution This initiative will review the achievements and shortcomings of the Directive, explore options for improvement and propose possible amendments. EU Roadmap MSFD review The deadline for responding is 6 May!

Dates: 24 - 26 March 2021

FARNET transnational ONLINE seminar for Baltic and inland FLAGs, 24-26 March 2021 Better local strategies around the Baltic Sea and in inland FLAG areas Following the online seminar for Mediterranean and Black Sea FLAGs, this seminar is for FLAGs in the Baltic Sea basin and in inland areas around Europe. Its objectives are:

  • to help FLAGs develop better, more innovative and more focused local strategies for the next programme period,
  • to facilitate exchange and joint learning on themes common to many Baltic and inland FLAGs,
  • to provide inspiration and support to cooperation between actors in Baltic and inland areas, and also with relevant non-CLLD initiatives.
Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs) are partnerships between fisheries actors and other local private and public stakeholders. Together, they design and implement a local development strategy to address their area's needs, be they economic, social and/or environmental. Based on their strategy, the FLAGs select and provide funding for local projects that contribute to local development in their areas, involving thousands of local stakeholders.
