• Fisheries Committee meeting agenda

Meet MEP Linnea Engström (MP), Deputy Chairman of the Fisheries Committee, and discuss the new fisheries policy (Baltic multiannual plan). September 2 at. 18.00 at Marine Centre, Simrishamn.

Topics to be discussed are i) ICES advice for the Baltic Sea for 2016 and the corresponding fishing opportunities, ii) Multispecies Plan for the Baltic Sea and iii) Implementation of the Landing Obligation in the Baltic Sea as well as information on the work of HELCOM group on sustainable and ecosystem-based fisheries.

The working group meeting will focus on technical measures.

•  A new CFP: structure for technical measures and multiannual plans
• Common rules with a view to the application of the external dimension of the CFP, including fisheries agreements

A public seminar on the state of fish stocks and the economic performance of fishing fleets will take place in Brussels on 14 July 2015. The seminar will review the latest information on the state of fish stocks and of the economic developments of the fleets in the North east Atlantic, the North Sea, the Baltic Sea, and in the Mediterranean.

Commissioner Vella will attend the opening session. Senior scientists from independent bodies, the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea and the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries will make presentations on the state of fish stocks in EU waters and on the economic conditions of fishing fleets, and there will be an exchange of views with the Advisory Councils and the participants.

Environmental Defense Fund recently published the EU Discard Reduction Manual to help support those seeking ways to implement the EU Common Fisheries Policy Landing Obligation. And now invites stakeholders to join them for a webinar looking at how the Manual can be used and to answer questions on its contents.

The webinar is for anyone interested in finding ways to implement the Landing Obligation. The webinar is open to fishermen and their representatives, fishery managers, academics, scientists, NGOs, politicians and European Commission officials.

Two of the key developers of the Manual will discuss the management tools presented in the document and elaborate on how they can be practically applied on the water, drawing on a number of fisheries management success stories in Europe and around the world.
