Invitation to participate: Baltic Sea Ghost Fishing seminar

Dates: 18 - 19 March 2013

WWF Poland, Lithuanian Fund for Nature and Baltic Sea 2020 would like to invite stakeholders for a two day seminar to discuss ghost fishing issues. The main outcomes from the “Collecting ghost nets in the Baltic Sea” project, which has been carried out in cooperation with fishermen, will be presented at the seminar.

Trialogue Meeting

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Dates: 18 - 19 March 2013

The trialogue negotiations are between the Council, Parliament and Commission. They will negotiate a compromise deal on the CFP between them. The Council will be represented by the Irish Presidency and the Parliament by rapporteur Ulrike Rodust.

Advisory Council on Fisheries and Aquaculture (ACFA) meeting

Dates: 13 March 2013

The fisheries resources group meeting will take place and is chaired by Javier Garat of Europêche. The 21 members represent the main branches of the industry – production, processing and trade, in both fisheries and aquaculture as well as consumer groups and organisations dealing with environmental protection and development.

NGOs are meeting Commissioner Damanaki

Location: Brussels , Belgium

OCEAN2012 together with BirdLife International, Greenpeace, Oceana and WWF are meeting Commissioner Damanaki ahead of the trilogue negotiations. The purpose of the meeting is to highlight to the Commissioner the NGO priorities and to advocate that these priorities do not get lost in the final text agreed during the negotiations.

Marine Litter: Public and Private Solutions will make a change towards Blue Growth

Location: Brussels , Belgium

The Conference Programme will set the scene for high level discussion in a professional environment, covering expert knowledge on various aspects: position of the EU Institutions regarding marine litter and blue growth, how to improve the plastic waste collection, future equipment, regional plans to face the problem, ongoing projects and assistance to the countries. All participants and speakers are invited to join the lunch which provides perfect networking opportunities. The lunch is included in the conference package.

Expert Workshop on Assessing Overcapacity

Location: Brussels , Belgium

Dates: 05 - 06 March 2013

The  OCEAN2012 steering group member Pew is holding a two-day workshop on fleet capacity assessment under a future CFP at the PEW office.  The workshop is for experts and the objective is to establish a methodology for the assessment of fleet capacity in order to identify and assess the extent of any overcapacity and its type and the most adequate policy responses.

Coordination meeting between the Commission and RACs

The meeting will act as part of the consultation on the future role and composition of Advisory Councils. As part of the CFP reform, it is proposed that RACs are rebranded Advisory Councils. Representatives from Member State ministries will also participate.

ComFish: North Sea regional participatory meeting

Location: Bergen/Trondheim, Norway

Dates: 25 - 27 February 2013

ComFish, an EU project focused on communication in fisheries, will be hosting a broad range of stakeholders at their preparatory meeting. The meeting objectives are to: Bring together various fisheries stakeholders to identify challenges and issues related to “mixed fisheries” including management. Suggest possible solutions and the necessary steps to undertake in order to overcome these challenges both now and in the future. Discover whether all the stakeholders are aware of pertinent scientific information that could enlighten parts of the discussions.
