The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management invites you to the conference Sea and Water Forum 2013. The focus of the conference is on three key areas within the agency:

• Reduced eutrophication
• Increased biodiversity in streams
• Sustainable fisheries

The European Association of Fisheries Economists will hold its XXI Conference in partnership with Heriot‐Watt University, at their Edinburgh campus. Directions and further information can be found at the links below. Papers can be submitted to the conference, the deadline for submitting abstracts is 26 November.

The theme of the conference is Implementing Reform in European Fisheries with the aim of bringing together academics, policy makers and industry to share knowledge and perspectives. To provide a forum to share recent advances in capture fisheries and aquaculture economics and management. The aim is to publish selected conference papers in a respected journal.

The European Parliament is in the midst of its negotiations on the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) for the next seven years. Will these subsidies be used to promote the progressive reform to finally create the sustainable Common Fisheries Policy that the Parliament voted for in February? Or will the €7 billion be used to create more over-capacity in the fleets, to develop unsustainable aquaculture and to promote a “big business” approach to fisheries? The event is organised by the Greens/EFA group in the Parliament.

The EPP group is hosting a workshop on diversification of aquaculture sites, including environmental services, ecotourism and sportfishing. The workshop will take place in the European Parliament in Room JAN 6Q1. Contact  Erik Bánki, MEP, EPP Group for more information

Baltic Fisheries Assessment Working Group (WGBFAS) annual meeting to assess the state of these stocks.

The 14 fish stocks presently covered by the working group are: 3 cod stocks (the Kattegat, western and eastern Baltic), the Baltic sprat stock, 3 herring stocks (SD25-32, SD30 and SD 31),  the Kattegat sole stock, two plaice stocks (SD21-23 and SD24-32), flounder (22-32), brill (SD22-32), dab (SD22-32), and turbot (SD22-32).

The meeting will take place at ICES headquarters in Copenhagen.

The next Polish Fisheries Roundtable will cover the reform of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), as well as discussions concerning the future role of the Roundtable and the role of the Baltic Sea Regional Advisory Council (BS RAC). In 2012, three such meetings were held, dealing with: 1. Reform of the CFP and a presentation of the pilot project "Collecting ghost nets in the Baltic Sea"; 2. Utilisation of the Polish catch quotas, regionalisation and discards; 3. the future European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, coastal fisheries and wind power. The event will take place at MIR (the sea fisheries institute) from 9 - 15.15 and simultaenous translation between Polish and English will be available.
