HELCOM managing fisheries in Baltic marine protected areas (BALTFIMPA) project workshop

Location: Gdynia, Poland

Dates: 13 - 14 November 2012

The First Expert Workshop of HELCOM Managing Fisheries in Baltic Marine Protected Areas (BALTFIMPA) project will be held in Gdynia, Poland, in the premises of the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute (MIR) (Address: Kołłątaja 1 Street, Gdynia) on 13-14 November 2012. The Meeting will start at 10:00 on Tuesday, 13 November and is expected to conclude at 12:00 on Wednesday, 14 November 2012. The Meeting will be arranged back-to-back with Eighth HELCOM Baltic Fisheries and Environment Forum on 14-15 November 2012.

Seminar on the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Dates: 12 November 2012

The seminar, entitled "Cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region - Synergies between the Nordic Council of Ministers, the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and Baltic Sea regions" has been organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the informal Baltic Sea Group and DG Regional Policy of the Commission. The three new objectives of the Strategy will be discussed: to save the sea, to connect the region and to increase prosperity.

European Parliament: Political group meetings to decide on voting recommendations for plenary Basic regulation vote

Dates: 12 November 2012

Political groups in the European Parliament will have internal meetings to decide on voting recommendation for the Plenary vote on the Basic Regulation and the reintroduction of amendments. The Plenary will likely take place in January 2013.

The meeting will be attended by MEPs in each political party that have are the “fish leads” and have focused on fisheries issues and the CFP reform.

Slow Fish Fair

Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting

Dates: 22 - 23 October 2012

Agenda forthcoming. Baltic TACs and quotas for 2013 will be decided. Cod, sprat, herring, salmon and plaice will have quotas set for the coming year. The Council is likely to aim for a General Approach to be agreed on the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).
