Little FISH big IMPACT

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Dates: 12 July 2012

This breakfast dialogue on the importance of forage fish for the health of marine environments and dependent communities will take place on Thursday July 12th, between 08.00 – 09.30 in the EP Members Salon, European Parliament, Brussels. Globally, forage fish are more valuable in the water than in the net: the supportive value of forage fish left in the water as food for commercially valuable predators is $11.3 billion globally, compared to a direct value of $5.6 billion. Forage fish populations are highly variable and are vulnerable to overfishing. The breakfast will be introduced by Anna Rosbach (ERC, DK) followed by a presentation from Dr. Ellen K. Pikitch on the fundamental role played by forage fish in our marine ecosystems in ensuring the health of both the marine environment and dependent communities by converting energy into food for larger fish, marine mammals, and seabirds. Please confirm your attendance to cschirmer@pewtrusts.org. Registrations will be dealt with on a first come first served as seats are limited.
